Weather conditions

2021 begins with a milder and significantly wetter winter than average, following in the footsteps of 2020. Budding, homogeneous and regular, is early. After a very cold, dry spring, severe frosts on April 7 destroyed 25% of the harvest at Mazeyres. Then until the end of April, temperatures are low and slow growth. The weather turns rainy in May. The stormy instability between mid-June and mid-July generates downy mildew pressure that we would have preferred not to see again so soon, and which continues until the end of veraison. However, the richness of the skins is promising. The Merlot harvest begins on the earliest plots on September 28. The climatic woes since budding have eaten away a fairly significant part of the yield but offer very aromatic wines. Knowing how much effort was needed to bring this harvest to its conclusion, the vineyard reminds us once again this year that nature remains the master. 2021, a lesson in humility.
